CHLI Future Leaders Conference
Young leaders develop their leadership through opportunities to see and hear inspirational leaders talk about leadership, the example of other youth, and the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other high-achieving youth. They also learn from the opportunity and responsibility of being part of internship/mentoring programs.

It is estimated that each summer 20,000 interns (approximately 500 are Hispanic) arrive in Washington, DC for internships with the Federal government, U.S. Congress, government relations organizations and associations, non-profit organizations, media, and industry. The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) aims to contribute to the development of these future leaders through the CHLI Future Leaders Conference (CFLC).

CFLC is intended to educate and develop promising students in a hands-on, practical setting while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership in Washington, D.C. and their respective communities. CFLC will offer students the opportunity to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers, analyze concepts, and then implement their new skills in their internships.

The goals of the conference are as follows:

1. To motivate young adults to seek and accept leadership responsibilities.

2. To promote awareness of leadership challenges in Hispanic communities.

3. To grow a network of student and support future collaboration among student leadership.

At this time programs that congregate student leadership are limited. This forum provides students with an opportunity to discuss current issues, examine careers in public service and network, while providing corporations an opportunity to showcase their respective Hispanic outreach efforts in recruiting, community development and investment.

Eligibility

D.C. interns have demonstrated leadership potential and a history of academic achievement; they also represent a variety of backgrounds and possess a broad range of interests and goals. CFLC is open to all outstanding local interns regardless of their internship placement. Students must register online with CHLI.
