Students will work on project-based programs that provide hands-on experience and also strengthen their understanding of public policy. Through a 12 to 15 week program (one semester) students will work closely with Congress and respected corporations in Washington D.C., and will earn academic credit hours. The CHLI scholarship includes round trip airfare to and from where they reside, monthly transportation stipend, a $2,000 living stipend, and matriculation and housing for GW for the semester.
"The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. My experience interning in Congress and at General Motors was an eye opening experience that not only broadened my horizon but also my perspective on how imperative our Latino culture is in our nation’s success,” said Nick Bustamante, Spring 2012 CHLI Global Leaders Fellow.
Greg Lebel, Director of Semester in Washington Politics at GW, said, "The breadth of experiences and perspectives to which students are exposed only enhances the value of their academic experience here at GW.” "The Semester in Washington Program is not only a great way to earn class credit but it considerably compliments anyone’s internship experience in D.C.,” Nick added.
