NEWSEUM | WASHINGTON, D.C.Founded in 2003, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit and non-partisan organization. CHLI is the premier organization founded by Members of Congress to advance the Hispanic Community’s Economic Progress with a focus on Social Responsibility and Global Competitiveness.
In the spirit of CHLI’s vision of advancing the Hispanic Community’s diversity of thought, the CHLI Trade & International Affairs Symposium will bring together international business leaders, experts on trade, members of the diplomatic community, foreign ministers and U.S. government officials to discuss trade issues and international affairs that affect U.S. global competitiveness.
The Symposium is spearheaded by CHLI’s Vice-Chairmen Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX) and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL), and will include panels on the importance of the U.S. Hispanic Community’s contributions to the global economy, and the importance of trade for our hemisphere’s diplomatic relations and global competitiveness. The CHLI Trade & International Affairs Symposium will commence with a Luncheon Reception to be followed by a welcome session that will include remarks by CHLI’s Congressional Members on the importance of the U.S. Hispanic Community’s contributions in a global economy. His Excellency, Alvaro Uribe, former President of Colombia was the keynote speaker in 2012.
The two afternoon panel discussions will focus on trade, international affairs and our nation's global competitiveness. Panelists will share their thoughts on why trade is positive for America and business, and how trade impacts the economic engine of the Americas. They will also include discussions about global trade partners, where the opportunities for growth are, and how trade will impact business in our hemisphere. Panelists will include executives from global corporations, small businesses that conduct international trade and political leaders who facilitate trade policy, individuals from the diplomatic community, foreign businesses and political leaders, as well as others who help advance the presence of the United States abroad.
The presentations provide the opportunity for Washington, D.C. area attorneys to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. In 2012 CLE was offered to attorneys registered in New York, California, Virginia, Texas, and Florida. Founding partner of the CHLI Trade and international Affairs Symposium is Florida International University, College of Law. CHLI is also partnering with organizations such as the Hispanic National Bar Association, as well as other respected law organizations and law firms to promote this unique learning experience.
