The free day-long student conference will feature prominent speakers from government, education, business and non-profits to address the event's theme, "The Emerging Role of Future Hispanic Leaders in US-Mexico Relations.” Former President of Mexico Vicente Fox will address students at the luncheon.
"We established the CHLI Future Leaders Conference in 2007 as a way to bring together university student leaders and young professionals to discuss issues of importance to the US Hispanic community and to network with local, national and international leaders in the public, private and non-profit sectors,” said Octavio A. Hinojosa Mier, CHLI Executive Director.
"CHLI has a strong presence in Washington, DC with our Congressional Briefing Series and the Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program, but we also want to support future Hispanic leaders throughout the country and be more visible and available especially in states such as Texas, California, Florida, and New Mexico,” he continued. "We are very pleased and honored to have Vicente Fox, Former President of Mexico, with us and look forward to seeing many Texas college students at the conference on March 27th.”
The CHLI Future Leaders Conference will feature a special luncheon and two panel-led discussions on: "Promoting Bilateral Economic Development: How the current economic environment affects you and your future job opportunities” and "Bilateral Public Policies and How They Affect Your Education, Environment, Security and Immigration.”
"The UTSA College of Business is very pleased to host the 4th CHLI Future Leaders Conference here in San Antonio, Texas,” said Dr. Lynda de la Vina, Dean, UTSA College of Business. "We are pleased to partner with the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute to provide this wonderful opportunity for UTSA student leaders and other local college students to explore US-Mexico Relations.”
Panelists for the conference feature local, statewide, and national leaders, including Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) who also volunteers his time to serve on the CHLI Board of Directors along with other distinguished Members of Congress from across the country.
"I am delighted to have the CHLI Future Leaders Conference held for the first time in south Texas,” said Congressman Cuellar. "I applaud the efforts of CHLI and UTSA to encourage our young Hispanic leaders to become an integral part of enhancing US-Mexico Relations.”
