THE CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE CONGRATULATES THE NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE 112TH CONGRESS
CHLI ALSO APPLAUDS THE HISTORIC NUMBER OF HISPANIC CANDIDATES WHO RAN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE IN THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS OF 2010 AND CELEBRATES THEIR SUCCESS
WASHINGTON, DC – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) congratulates all newly elected Members of Congress, and praises Hispanic candidates for making significant gains across the country at all levels of government.
A remarkable number of Hispanic candidates ran in local, state, and federal races across the country during these midterm elections, and some have made history by becoming the first Hispanic in their newly-elected position. Among them is District Attorney for the 3rd Judicial district of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, who has become the nation's first female Hispanic governor elected in New Mexico.
"These elections demonstrated once again, that the Hispanic community continues to be the deciding factor in key races across the country” said Octavio Hinojosa Mier, CHLI Executive Director. "The midterm elections of 2010 were a reflection of the importance of getting out the vote.”
The 112th Congress will certainly face challenges, with growing unemployment, an electorate focused on job creation, and the pending issue of immigration reform; however, CHLI looks forward to continuing to work with our Congressional Members on both sides of the aisle.
The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI, pronounced "chili”) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, based in Washington, D.C., that advances the diversity of thought in U.S. Hispanic community in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as in the international community.
