Statement of Condolence for Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Family
The Board of Directors and Corporate Advisory Council members of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) express our heartfelt condolences to our dear friend and fellow board member, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, for the loss of her mother, Amanda Ros.
Amanda Ros died early Friday morning from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, and leaves behind her husband of 65-years, Enrique Ros; two children, and four grandchildren.
After arriving from Cuba in the early 1960’s, Amanda and Enrique Ros worked tirelessly to support their family in Miami’s Little Havana. They operated a successful small business for 30 years, and were active participants in the movement to help bring democracy to their native Cuba.
"Amanda was an extraordinary human being, a friend and a patriot who, along with Enrique, formed a highly respected, marvelous family. We will miss Amanda dearly, and send Enrique, Ileana and the entire Ros-Lehtinen family our deepest condolences,” said Lincoln Diaz-Balart, CHLI Board Chairman.
A viewing will be held from noon to midnight Saturday at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Homes, 8200 SW 40th St., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 226 SW 17th Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeast Florida Chapter, P.O. Box 22594, WestPalm Beach, FL33416, or at www.alz.org/sefl.
