The CHLI
Annual Awards Recognize Extraordinary Leadership Within the
U.S. and International Hispanic
Community
WASHINGTON,
DC (May 19, 2011) – This past Wednesday, May 11th, the Congressional
Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) presented its International Leadership
Award to the President of Mexico, His Excellency Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, and
its Corporate Leadership Award to Cesar Conde, President of Univision Networks,
at its 7th Annual CHLI Gala and Leadership Awards reception in the
nation’s capital.
The winners of this year’s awards were honored in
recognition of their outstanding contributions to the positive advancement of
the U.S. Hispanic Community, both in the U.S. and abroad.
"Tonight
we come together to recognize a brave Statesman, and by honoring him we honor
his nation, a great nation. We salute
and praise a leader and a country confronting unscrupulous forces of evil, yet
determined to guarantee the victory of justice and the Rule of Law. Tonight we are recognizing the President of
Mexico, Felipe Calderon, with CHLI’s 2011 Leadership in International Relations
Award, and through him we pay tribute to Mexico,” said Lincoln Díaz-Balart
(FL), CHLI Board Chairman.
Previous
CHLI Leadership Award recipients include President Ma Ying-Jeou of the Republic
of China (Taiwan), former Prime Minister of Spain Jose María Aznar, former
Speaker of the House of Representatives Dennis Hastert, Senator Robert Menéndez
(NJ), former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutiérrez, Senator Lindsey
Graham (SC), and U.S. Congressman Mike Pence. CHLI’s annual gala also included
the presence of numerous Members of Congress from both political parties.
CHLI’s Board Chairman was also joined by Jose Díaz-Balart and Ileana
Ros-Lehtinen.
"The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute is
privileged to grant its 2011 Corporate Leadership Award to someone who makes
all Hispanics proud,” said Díaz-Balart (FL). "We consider it a privilege to be
honoring Cesar Conde because he is a great corporate leader. And also because
Cesar Conde is utilizing his position of influence to transmit the values that
made him what he is today, to others in our community. Cesar Conde is an
