CHLI Hosts Sixth Annual Future Leaders Conference

Under the theme: "Explore the World, Discover Your Future!”


 Washington, DC, July 18, 2012 – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) will be hosting its Sixth Annual Future Leaders Conference on Friday, July 20, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Congressional Auditorium in the US Capitol Visitors Center. The conference theme will be centered upon the theme of "Global Competition and Innovation.” Members of Congress, as well as representatives of Fortune 500 companies will be participating. 

More than 200 students, interns, young professionals, and community leaders are expected to attend this half-day conference and career networking luncheon. The conference is open to all students from diverse backgrounds Members of the audience are invited to take part in discussions on the impact of global competition and innovation on today’s ever changing business environment. These discussions will focus on helping students find their path to becoming local and global leaders.

This year’s conference will count with the participation of Former Congressman and CHLI Chairman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, CHLI Vice-Chair Mario Diaz-Balart, as well as Members of our Congressional Board of Directors, Congressman David Rivera, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Francisco Canseco, Congressman Albio Sires, and Congressman Bill Flores. Joedis Avila, Community Outreach Manager, for Ford Motor Company will be delivering welcome remarks as well.  In addition, Her Excellency Roxana Baldetti, Vice President of Guatemala will share her support for education and her personal inspirational story.

The "Choose your vehicle,” a path to innovation discussion panel brings together a powerful and diverse group of corporate executives: Jason Llorenz, Executive Director for the Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership; Ray Dempsey, Vice President of BP of America; Juan Otero, Vice President of Comcast, and Pablo Chavez, Director of Public Policy at Google will share the paths to success they have taken that has led them to where they serve today. 

"See the world” is the theme of the second panel discussion. Speakers include: Joedis Avila, Community Outreach Manager for Ford Motor Company; Sarah Thorne, Senior Director of Federal Government Relations for Walmart; Sara Akbar of Oracle Corporation and Chris Mustain, Vice President at The Council on Competitiveness. They will share their experiences and lessons learned from working in and with other countries.

Registration for the conference is complimentary which includes breakfast and will be followed by a networking lunch. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from Teach for America, Florida International University, American Jewish Committee, Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and more.
